Southampton Airport is preparing for the launch of a new service with FlyLolo to Skiathos in Greece. The first flight will take off on 3 July and will operate every Tuesday until 2 October.

A new operator, FlyLolo specialises in extra capacity for school holidays at a lower price than no frills airlines from the London airports.

While most other operators servicing Skiathos have to stop en-route at Thessaloniki or Kavala, the new link from Southampton will be a direct service in both directions. However, due to the short runway at Skiathos, the 118-seat Embraer 195, operated by Flybe, which will be used for the service will operate with a restricted load of 97 passengers.

According to Neil Garwood, the managing director for Southampton Airport, the airport is “very proud” to have the Skiathos route as part of its summer schedule. “It’s a truly unique opportunity to be able to offer our passengers a direct connection from the UK’s south coast to Greece, and we are looking forward to the launch on 3rd July.”

The most popular of Greece’s Sporades islands, Skiathos is fondly referred to as ‘paradise on earth’ thanks to its lush pine forest and azure blue waters. It rose to fame as one of the filming locations for Hollywood’s iconic Mamma Mia! film.
