Shannon Airport in Ireland has suspended flights on Thursday morning following an incident with a Boeing 763 aircraft.
In a series of tweets posted on the airport’s social media account, it alerted passengers: “We can confirm that an incident has occurred at Shannon Airport involving a Boeing 763 aircraft.
“Emergency services are in attendance. All passengers and crew have disembarked. Airport operations temporarily suspended.”
The airport advised passengers to contact their airlines and also confirmed: “We are currently working to remove the aircraft from the scene of the incident so we can resume safe operations on the runway.”
The incident is reported to involve an Omni Air International aircraft, and the US-based passenger and government charter and ACMI wet leasing operator, also shared a statement on social media, tweeting: “We are investigating reports of an incident involving Omni Air International flight 531 at Shannon Airport, Ireland.
“The Omni Boeing 767-300 aircraft rejected takeoff and was safely evacuated. Initial reports indicate no serious injuries to passengers or crew.
“Our primary concern at this time is for their safety. We are participating in the investigation of this incident and will release further information as it becomes available.”
Update
At 10:43 Shannon Airport provided an update on social media, stating: “The aircraft has now been successfully removed from the runway. Planning for the resumption of flights is now underway.”
