Danish regional airline, SUN-AIR, has returned to Hamburg Airport with two daily flights to Friedrichshafen on the northern shoreline of Lake Constance in southern Germany.

Previously SUN-AIR operated a route from Hamburg to London City Airport in the UK and this will be the carrier’s second route from Friedrichshafen, after it introduced flights to Dusseldorf last June.

Its latest 80-minute German domestic link is operated on 32-seat Dornier 328 jets under BA flight numbers with the aircraft bearing British Airways livery.

“We are very pleased to be back in Hamburg and we are convinced our new service to Friedrichshafen will be successful based on the forward bookings,” said Kristian Tvergaard, commercial director at SUN-AIR.

Meanwhile Dr Joergen Kearsley, director aviation marketing at Hamburg Airport commented: “The ideal flight times make this an efficient connection between Hamburg and the four-countries region, especially for many business travellers.”

Referencing leisure passengers, he stated: “But Friedrichshafen is also an ideal starting point for leisure trips to Lake Constance and the nearby skiing regions. I am thrilled to have SUN-AIR bring this important connection back to our route network.”
