Birmingham Airport, the gateway to the West Midlands in the UK, confirmed on Tuesday 5 June that Primera Air will temporarily suspend flights to New York and Toronto.

The long-haul, low-fare carrier had only launched flights to New York in May and was due to start flights to Toronto on 26 June. The services have been suspended due to the ongoing late delivery of the airline’s long-haul A321neo aircraft from Airbus.

Since launching its New York service from Birmingham last month, load factors have averaged 70%, indicating a positive forecast for flights between Birmingham and North America.

While passengers booked on services from 21 June will be given full refunds or transfers on to other services, Primera Air confirmed that it plans to reinstate transatlantic services next year once the aircraft is available. It also stressed that the suspension of its transatlantic service does not affect its short-haul services in operation from Birmingham.
