London Luton airport gains new link to Tenerife

London Luton airport is gaining a new low-fare route as Wizz Air UK is set to launch a connection to Tenerife in the Canary Islands in November.

From 16 November, the airline will connect the London airport with the popular Spanish holiday destination.

The airline said this announcement will see it create seventy thousand new seat capacity at its London Luton base, as well as approximately 50 additional indirect jobs in the UK. With the new route, the airline will also be offering 63 routes to 30 countries from the airport.

“It is our pleasure to announce another long awaited route to a popular Spanish holiday destination,” said Owain Jones, managing director, Wizz Air UK, adding that the new route demonstrates the airline’s commitment to offering low fares and “destinations across all of Europe, connecting the UK with ever more leisure destinations.”

A growing airport

The airport saw its busiest ever summer this year as it welcomed 5.3 million passengers between 1 June and 31 August, an increase of 7.3% on the previous year.

Just last week the airport welcomed FlyBosnia as it celebrated its inaugural flight from London to Sarajevo International, providing “the first and only direct flight to Sarajevo to operate from any UK airport in over a decade.”

Jonathan Pollard, LLA’s chief commercial officer said the airport was “delighted that FlyBosnia has chosen London Luton Airport as its UK base.”
