A dedicated business aviation airport located 12 miles from Central London, Biggin Hill Airport has upgraded its Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (RFFS) from Category 3 to Category 6.

The move involved the increase of personnel with the introduction of a third airport RFFS watch at the airport. Whereas previously customers had to pre-book and pay for the service, it will now be available on demand as part of the standard airport service at no additional charge.

The airport has appointed a new crew manager to oversee the expansion of its rescue and fire fighting services. It’s a first for Biggin Hill, as Vanessa Hopkins is the first woman to be promoted to crew manager at the airport.

“Over the past 12 months, we’ve seen a significant acceleration of long-range and ultra-long-range jet movements, as customers from further afield choose London Biggin Hill as the fast-track route into London, thanks to our extending operating hours,” said Andy Patsalides, marketing manager at London Biggin Hill.

Free of runway slot constraints, Biggin Hill is already home to over 65 commercial and aviation activities and offers extensive hangarage, support and maintenance services for all ranges of business jets.

“As the airport expands we will continue to grow our capabilities to ensure we maintain our class-leading standards across the board,” Patsalides added.
