Cardiff Airport will take over passenger services operations at Anglesey Airport’s terminal from 1 December, following a new agreement between Cardiff Airport and the Isle of Anglesey County Council.
The North Wales airport opened in 2007 and has since facilitated a weekday route between Cardiff and Anglesey.
The team currently working at Anglesey Airport will become part of the Cardiff Airport team, and the company aims to generate a further four jobs in aviation roles through a local recruitment drive.
Donna Williams, airport manager at Anglesey Airport, commented: “This is an exciting new chapter for Anglesey Airport.
“We are a small team here at Anglesey so it will be great to welcome new recruits and join the wider Cardiff Airport team, who will be on hand to share experience and knowledge.”
Cardiff Airport will take over the operations when the contract with the current provider Apleona comes to an end at the end of November. The new agreement will be in place until March 2023.
“We’re delighted to have secured this agreement and to be working with Isle of Anglesey County Council and the fantastic team at Anglesey Airport,” said Ceri Mashlan, director of operations at Cardiff Airport.
“On April 1st 2019 we took over the operations at Bro Tathan airfield, and today we announce our next step with Anglesey Airport. As the national airport for the country and a key strategic asset, we are proud to be expanding our business by using our experience to deliver sustainability in airport operations across Wales.”
Mashlan added that the focus will now be on growing the workforce and “delivering operational excellence, while promoting our shareholder’s aspirations to grow air services and enhance connectivity across Wales.”
