The new hangar being built at Billund Airport in Denmark has certainly got the ‘wow’ factor. The state-of-the-art construction features an all-glass travelling hangar door and facade measuring 113 metres in length and 15 metres in height.
“This is a special project for us because all-glass doors of this scale are unique,” said Thilo Butzbach, managing director of Butzbach GmbH, the company behind the innovative design. The Kellmünz-based company specialises in building large and complex door systems for its global customer base. It is poised to assemble the door system on site in just 11 weeks and the project is expected to be completed in February 2020.
Butzbach also worked on the new airport in Istanbul, where it constructed two large doors measuring 150m in length. Despite working under extreme conditions, the company completed the project reliably and according to schedule. The large-scale project in Billlund will generate €2m in revenue for the company and is the latest of more than 850 hangar projects Butzbach has completed.
In the past two years it has completed several custom door adjustments for accommodating aircraft with extra-long fuselages, such as the Airbus A380 at Munich Airport and the Airbus Beluga XL in Toulouse. “These major projects in the last two years are a testament to the trust our clients place in us. They prove that we are on the right path,” added Butzbach.
