The Guernsey-based carrier, Aurigny, is to commence two services to Jersey and Southampton in May 2019.

The airline will offer a twice-daily return service to Jersey from Guernsey, as well as a twice-daily return service to Southampton from Guernsey, both commencing in May 2019.

Aurigny suggests its return to Jersey and the additional services to Southampton will offer an additional inter-island business connection as well as offering “customers greater choice.”

The new services are part of an expansion of Aurigny’s route portfolio and will be operated with one of the existing leased ATR aircraft, the airline says this will mean there will be no adverse impact on other services.

“We are delighted to be returning to Jersey and offering a further service from Guernsey to Southampton,” said Mark Darby, chief executive. “People often ask me when we will return to our sister island, given Aurigny’s heritage on the route. We will be offering weekday morning and evening flights on both new routes, giving customers the choice of a day return to either destination and convenient times for business, medical and leisure passengers.”

Aurigny said the development of the two new routes will help the airline in meeting the objective set for it by the States to reach a breakeven position.

The new routes create a slot in the middle of the day, and Aurigny confirmed it is exploring options of adding a further destination in due course, adding: “This is being looked into in consultation with VisitGuernsey and the Committee for Economic Development and will be used to further Aurigny’s ‘economic enablement’ objective.”
