ACI Europe 2019: SITA’s airport management system deployed at Eindhoven Airport

Viggo, the sole ground handler at Eindhoven Airport, has deployed SITA’s Airport Management System to ensure more efficient operations from check-in to departure at one of Europe’s fastest-growing regional airports.

With flights arriving and departing every few minutes, a real-time overview of what is happening across Eindhoven’s airport operations at all times is vital in ensuring timely aircraft turnaround times and ultimately a more efficient passenger journey. SITA’s AirportResource Manager allows Viggo to co-ordinate and monitor tasks of the airport’s 500 employees. It will also support all airside ramp activities during the turnaround of low-fare carriers at Eindhoven.

“SITA’s Airport Management System has brought new capabilities and efficiency to Viggo at Eindhoven Airport by providing an integrated, real-time view of our operations in both the terminal and airside,” said Martijn Limburg, managing director of Viggo. “It has helped us secure our on-time performance by improving the effective use of all our resources by setting uniform target times. This has contributed to a better customer journey while at the same time maintaining staff efficiency at the highest level.”

Viggo and SITA have worked together for many years with Viggo becoming the first licensed Airport Management System delivery consultant for other SITA customers. In addition and to support Viggo’s multi-skilled resource model and offer a scalable management solution, SITA’s technology is planned to support operations at Lelystad Airport, the Netherland’s newest regional airport, starting in 2020.

Reports by SITA show that airport collaborative decision-making (A-CDM) processes and technology have a positive impact on the use of ground handling resources.

Speaking at Airports Council International (ACI) Europe’s Regional Airports Conference and Exhibition on Wednesday 22 May, Jelmer Melissen, head of business development, Viggo Eindhoven, reiterated the benefits of A-CDM in contributing to better management of air traffic at peak times.

“Viggo deploys multi-skilled staff throughout the airport from passenger and ground handling to security services, air cargo handling and contract logistics, aircraft and terminal cleaning,” he said. “A-CDM is about improving operational efficiency, reducing delays, increasing predictability of events and the best use of all available resources,” he concluded.

Last year Viggo welcomed roughly 6.3 million passengers on almost 40,000 flights at Eindhoven Airport.
