Wow air signed a sale and purchase agreement with Air Canada just before Christmas to sell four Airbus A321s that the Icelandic carrier has had on finance lease since 2014.
Delivery of the A321ceo aircraft is scheduled for January 2019, with the deal to improve Wow’s liquidity by more than US$12 million. The sale is a part of the carrier’s ongoing restructuring and to ensure the maximum utilisation of its remaining fleet, it said.
The low-fare airline, in the midst of being acquired by Indigo Partners, has also confirmed it will be moving its London Gatwick service to London Stansted, effective 31 March 2019. The new schedule from London Stansted will see daily flights to Keflavik depart at 11:20am, allowing passengers to make onward connections to the US and Canada. Wow’s London Gatwick schedule will remain unchanged until 31 March 2019.
Mats Sigurdson, London Stansted aviation director, said: “We’re delighted that Wow air has chosen to base its London operation at London Stansted Airport. We saw really high demand over the summer from passengers choosing Wow’s flights to Reykjavik and beyond to destinations across the United States, and inbound tourism to London and the East of England.”
The airline will also reintroduce its Edinburgh-Keflavik route following a seasonal pause, with flights to start in June 2019. Flights will operate three times per week between Edinburgh in Scotland and Keflavik, also ensuring time for transatlantic connections.
