Wizz Air has announced it will begin operations at London Southend Airport, adding a third London airport to the airline’s map.

From November, the low-cost carrier will offer flights from London Southend to Bucharest in Romania and Vilnius in Lithuania.

The airline expects to create over 100 indirect jobs in the Southend area, and with the announcement, Wizz Air now operates from three London airports; Luton, Gatwick and now Southend.

“It is exciting to see Wizz Air painting the skies pink at Southend, as we expand our footprint across the Greater London airports,” commented Owain Jones, managing director, Wizz Air UK.

The airline is also launching two new services to Western Europe from its London Luton base, as it plans to launch routes to Castellón – the Spanish city between Benicàssim and Valencia, and Vienna, the capital of Austria. The airline said this would be the “first time that Wizz will connect its low-fare UK network with popular holiday and city break destinations in Spain and Austria.”

The four new services mean Wizz Air has almost 11 million seats on sale on its 106 routes, from 12 UK airports to Europe and beyond – representing 24% growth year-on-year.
