Vueling Airlines has extended its co-operation with Lufthansa Systems (LSY) to further optimise its flight planning by introducing Traffic Flow Restrictions (TFR), an add-on for LSY’s flight planning solution Lido/Flight.
With TFR, Vueling can plan its routes more efficiently and can reduce fuel costs. The tool can cut fuel consumption by up to two percent on certain flights, according to LSY.
Traffic flow restrictions are highly complex rules established by the aviation authorities to ensure smooth traffic flows. They also guarantee the optimal use of airspace and the safety of each flight. Examples of such rules include temporary restrictions for particular airways, aircraft types or altitudes. LSY claims the TFR functionality of Lido/Flight is the first solution of its type to also cover partial restrictions on specific airways and suggest alternate routes. This makes it possible to combine route segments with maximum efficiency.
