Volaris has taken delivery of its first Airbus A320neo, becoming the one and only operator of the type in North America so far.
The new aircraft is powered by Pratt & Whitney’s Pure Power PW1100G-JM engines and leased through AerCap. Configured to seat up to 186 passengers, the A320neo is equipped with Airbus’ Space-Flex cabin.
Volaris is Mexico’s largest Airbus customer, having ordered 74 A320 family aircraft in total, including 30 A320neos. The airline is currently operating 63-strong A320 family aircraft fleet, made up of 17 A319s, 42 A320s and four A321s.
“The arrival of the A320neo symbolises an important step in our ambitious ultra low-cost strategy,” averred Enrique Beltranena, CEO of Volaris. “Volaris is delighted to be the first to bring this new technology to passengers in North America.”
Rafael Alonso, Airbus’ president for Latin America and the Caribbean, added, “Airbus is honoured to deliver the first A320neo in North America to Volaris, an all-Airbus operator for more than 10 years. Mexico’s strong economic growth presents a key opportunity for the country’s top airlines such as Volaris to expand and remain environmentally efficient, and the A320neo will be exceptional in achieving this for Volaris.”
