Virgin America releases June and first-half 2015 traffic figures

Virgin America has reported its preliminary operational results for June 2015 and for the first half of the calendar year (1H15).

The airline's revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in June decreased 1.9% to 933,695,000 from 952,059,000 in June 2014. Available seat miles (ASMs) were down 1.3% to 1,090,790,000 from 1,105,535,000. The June 2015 load factor was 85.6%, down 0.5 percentage points from June 2014’s figure of 86.1%. The number of passengers carried increased 4.1% to a rounded 616,000 from 591,000 in June 2014.

In 1H15, RPMs totalled 4,978,753,000, up 1.2% from 1H14’s figure of 4,917,447,000. ASMs for the respective periods rose by just 0.7% to 6,018,824,000 from 5,978,971,000. The load factor increased by 0.5 pp to 82.7% in 1H15 from 82.2% in 1H14. The airline reported that in rounded figures the airline carries 3,328,000 passengers in 1H15, compared with 3,208,000 in 1H14, a 3.7% increase.
