Virgin America has announced its preliminary operational results for March 2015 and the first quarter of the calendar year (1Q15).
The airline's revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in March increased 4.9% to 853,011,000 from 812,850,000 last March. Available seat miles was 4.7% higher than the same month in 2014 at 1,012,912,000, up from 967,143,000.
The March load factor was 84.2%, up 0.2 percentage points from March 2014. The number of onboard passengers increased 5.4% to a rounded figure of 574,000 from last March’s 544,000.
In 1Q15, RPMs totalled 2,256,695,000, up 2.6% from 1Q14’s figure of 2,198,828,000. ASMs were increased by 1.5% to 2,818,875,000 in 1Q15 from 2,777,265,000 in 1Q14.
The load factor for the quarter was 80.1%, compared with 79.2% in 1Q14, a 0.9 pp increase. The rounded number of passengers carried was 1,523,000 compared with 1,479,000 in 1Q14, a 2.9% increase.
