Virgin America announces May 2016 traffic stats

Virgin America’s operational results for May 2016 show a load factor of 86.1%, an increase of 1.9 percentage points from the 84.2% recorded in May 2015.
The airline's revenue passenger miles (RPMs) increased 18.1% from 898,982,000 to 1,061,612,000 year-over-year, while available seat miles (ASMs) grew by 15.5% from 1,067,196,000 to 1,232,640,000. The number of onboard passengers increased by 16.8% from 602,000 to 703,000 across the same respective periods.
Virgin America’s figures for the year-to-date show a 15.4% increase in passenger numbers from 2,712,000 in 2015 to 3,130,000 in 2016. However, due to a 15.3% growth in ASMs from 4,928,034,000 to 5,679,736,000 against a 15.5% rise in RPMs from 4,045,057,000 to 4,670,704,000, the year-to-date load factor has only increased by 0.1 percentage points from 82.1% to 82.2%.
