US Airways reports March 2010 and 1Q10 traffic for Express subsidiaries

US Airways has reported March 2010 and first quarter 2010 (1Q10) traffic figures for its two wholly-owned subsidiaries which operate under the brand – Piedmont Airlines and PSA Airlines.

During March the two carriers recorded 173,685,000 revenue passenger miles (RPMs), compared with 175,571,000 in March 2009, a 1.1% decrease. Available seat miles (ASMs), however, were cut by 3.9% to 253,658,000 from 263,975,000 for the respective months. This resulted in a load factor of 68.5%, 2.0 percentage points better than March 2009’s 66.5%.

The total number of passengers carried by the pair was 635,761, a 2.5% drop compared with March 2009’s 652,000.

For the first three months of 2010, RPMs totalled 456,517,000, down by 2.9% from 1Q09’s figure of 470,356,000, while ASMs were cut by 7.1% to 707,739,000 from 761,422,000. Consequently the load factor rose by 2.7 pp in 1Q10 to 64.5% from 1Q09’s 61.8%. The number of passengers carried dropped by 4.7% to 1,670,664 from 1,753,886 for the respective periods.
