US Airways announces 2012 traffic for Express subsidiaries

US Airways has reported December and full-year 2012 traffic figures for its wholly-owned US Airways Express subsidiaries, Piedmont Airlines and PSA Airlines.

In December, revenue passenger miles (RPMs) totalled 209,664,000, compared with 181,696,000 in December 2011, a 15.4% increase. Available seat miles (ASMs) were increased by 9.2% to 279,142,000 from 255,682,000 for the respective months.

The load factor thus rose by 4.0 percentage points to 75.1% from 71.1%. During the month, the two airlines carried 690,830 passengers, up by 8.9% on the 634,160 carried the previous December.

For the whole of 2012, RPMs went up by 6.3% to 2,444,111,000 from 2,298,451,000 in 2011. ASMs were increased by just 4.7% to 3,299,122,000 from 3,152,186,000. The load factor therefore increased by 1.2 pp to 74.1%, compared with 72.9% in 2011. The number of passengers carried totalled 8,246,941, an increase of 4.5% over 2011’s total of 7,895,309.
