Turkmenistan Airlines back in European skies

Turkmenistan Airlines has been authorised to resume flights within the European Union after a suspension of ten months by European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) over safety concerns.

The Turkmen national carrier reopened its connection between Ashgabat International Airport and Frankfurt Airport on December 7. The first flight T5463 was completed by a Boeing 737 with about 50 passengers on board.

The EASA lifted the ban in October after a “successful on-site audit of Turkmenistan Airlines in Ashgabat,” the capital of the former Soviet republic. On December 1, the airline announced it would resume flights to the UK, the first of which will take place on December 13.

Turkmenistan Airlines’ permits were suspended over safety concerns in February 2019. The airline was forced to suspend its routes to Frankfurt, Paris, London and Birmingham, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.
