Southwest Airlines carried 8,761,811 passengers in February 2016, an increase of 11.4% in comparison to the 7,865,619 passengers carried during the same month the previous year.
The carrier reported a 13.5% increase in revenue passenger miles from 7,572,150,000 to 8,591,290,000 across the same respective periods against a 14.7% growth in available seat miles (ASM) from 9,474,563,000 to 10,870,738,000.
This resulted in a load factor of 79% for February 2016, a 0.9 percentage point decrease in comparison to the 79.9% load factor Southwest achieved in February 2015.
Based on these results and current trends, Southwest continues to expect its first quarter 2016 operating revenue per ASM to be in line with the first quarter of 2015.
