Southwest Airlines has announced its preliminary traffic data for August 2014, featuring a rise in load factor of more than 4 percentage points.
Revenue passenger miles (RPMs) grew 4.9% from 9,622,273,000 in August 2013 to 9,169,665,000 for the same month this year. Available seat miles (ASMs) were cut by just 0.2% to 11,252,402,000 from 11,273,299, 000 last August.
These figures created a load factor of 85.5%, up 4.2 pp from last August’s 81.3%. Revenue passengers carried totalled 9,442,224, compared with 9,106,397 in the same month last year, a 3.7% increase.Southwest decreased the amount of trips flown during August by 5.1% in comparison with August 2013, operating 106,663 flights compared with last August’s 112,448.
