Southwest has extended its summer schedule for 2015, introducing seven more nonstop new services, two further routes currently subject to government approval and 18 additional seasonal routes in what Andrew Watterson, Southwest's VP of network planning and performance, described as the biggest “June and July schedule in the airline’s history”.
From 7 June, Southwest will begin operating flights once daily between Indianapolis and Los Angeles, Oakland and Nashville and Oakland and New Orleans; and twice daily between Los Angeles and Portland.
From 28 June, the airline will begin once daily services between Austin and Orange County/Santa Ana and Austin and St Louis; and twice daily between Indianapolis and Boston Logan.
The routes awaiting approval from the government are a daily service between Orange County/Santa Ana and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and a seasonal, Saturday-only service between Baltimore/Washington (BWI) and San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos, Mexico, which would run from June 7 to August 7.
“What we're announcing today is an additional investment in many of our long-time communities,” continued Watterson. “We're connecting our customers to what's important to them – more seats at our low fares, our great customer service and policies, and better schedules through nonstop options.”
The additional seasonal flights apply to once daily nonstop services between Albuquerque and Orlando, Austin and Portland or Austin and San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos, Mexico, Atlanta and Seattle/Tacoma, Baltimore/Washington (BWI) and Portland or Boise and Chicago (Midway), Houston (Hobby) and Portland, Kansas City and Seattle/Tacoma, Los Angeles (LAX) and Omaha, Nashville and Seattle/Tacoma, Seattle/Tacoma and St Louis and Spokane and Chicago (Midway).
Additional flights between Albany and Denver, Chicago (Midway) and Portland, Maine, Houston (Hobby) and Salt Lake City, Las Vegas and Manchester and Norfolk/Virginia Beach and Tampa Bay will operate once a week on Saturdays.
Finally, Southwest’s summer schedule will feature an additional twice-daily service between Houston (Hobby) and Seattle/Tacoma.
