Southwest Airlines has reported its preliminary traffic figures for March 2015 as well as the first quarter of the year (1Q15).
The company flew 10,240,507,000 revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in March 2015, a 6.7% increase from the 9,596,470,000 RPMs flown in March 2014. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 4.4% to 12,113,609,000 from the March 2014 level of 11,604,778,000.
The March 2015 load factor was 84.5%, which was 1.8 percentage points up on the 82.7% in March 2014. The number of revenue passengers carried in March was 10,363,811 compared with 9,806,609 last March, a 5.7% increase.
For 1Q15, Southwest flew 25,860,866,000 RPMs, compared with 24,155,317,000 RPMs flown in 1Q14, an increase of 7.1%. ASMs in 1Q15 increased 6.0% to 32,297,465,000 from the 1Q14 figure of 30,474,582,000.
The 1Q15 load factor was up 0.8 pp at 80.1%, from the 79.3% achieved in 1Q14. Revenue passengers carried totalled 26,442,996 in 1Q15, which was 5.5% more than the 25,055,809 carried in 1Q14.
