Southwest Airlines has reported January 2012 combined traffic results for Southwest Airlines and its wholly-owned subsidiary AirTran, which Southwest acquired in May 2011.
For purposes of comparability, the company provides combined traffic results for Southwest Airlines and AirTran for periods prior to the acquisition date.
The combined carriers flew 7,381,309,000 revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in January 2012, compared to 7,586,886,000 combined RPMs flown in January 2011, a decrease of 2.7%. Available seat miles (ASMs) decreased 0.7% to 9,938,578,000 from the January 2011 combined level of 10,013,613,000.
The load factor for January 2012 was down by 1.5 percentage points at 74.3%, compared with the combined load factor of 75.8% in January 2011. The total number of enplaned passengers in January was 9,770,133, which was 2.4% fewer than the 10,007,048 carried in January 2010.
