Southwest Airlines has reported August 2011 combined traffic results for Southwest Airlines and AirTran.
AirTran became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southwest Airlines on 2 May 2011, so for purposes of comparability, the company is providing combined traffic results for Southwest Airlines and AirTran for periods prior to the acquisition date.
The company flew 9,346,553,000 revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in August 2011, compared with 8,997,354,000 combined RPMs flown in August 2010, an increase of 3.9%. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased by 4.2% to 11,321,267,000 from the August 2010 combined level of 10,868,865,000.
The load factor for August 2011 was 82.6%, just 0.2 percentage points below the combined load factor of 82.8% in August 2010. Revenue passengers carried by the two airlines rose by just 0.1% to 9,541,560 from 9,535,882 in August 2010.
