Southwest Airlines carried 10,924,106 passengers in January 2016, an increase of 8.8% from the 10,036,531 passengers carried during January 2015.The carrier’s available seat miles (ASMs) grew by 7.8% to 11,544,677,000 in January 2016 compared with 10,709,292 for the corresponding period the previous year. Revenue passenger miles (RPMs) rose from 8,048,209,000 to 8,941,796,000 year-over-year. This resulted in a load factor of 77.5% for January 2016, a 2.3 percentage point increase on January 2015 and a record for the month.The number of trips Southwest flew also increased by 3.9% from 99,769 to 103,660. Based on these results and current trends, Southwest continues to expect its first quarter 2016 operating revenue per ASM to be in line with first quarter 2015.
