Southwest Airlines has released traffic data for October 2010 including its load factor for the month climbing to above 80%.
The airline flew 6,851,084,000 revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in October 2010, an 8.3% increase from the 6,325,204,000 RPMs flown in October 2009. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased by 5.0% to 8,390,060,000 from the October 2009 level of 7,987,167,000.
The load factor for the month was 81.7%, 2.5 percentage points up on the 79.2% in the same period last year. Revenue passengers carried totalled 7,787,340, an increase of 4.8% on the 7,432,565 carried in October 2009.
For October 2010, passenger revenue per ASM is estimated to have increased by approximately 11% compared with October 2009.
