Southwest Airlines has stepped up its pace of Hawaiian routes roll out. The airline announced an additional new route between the US mainland and Hawaii has been brought forward and will also increase its frequency on existing routes.

According to airline analysts, Southwest is keen to make up lost time after initially facing some issues in establishing its routes to Hawaii. The airline began flying to Hawaii from Oakland, California in March 2019. In addition, inter-island flights were launched at the same time.

Southwest Airlines had expected to rapidly increase its services but, the 737 MAX grounding has stalled this plan, as the airline is the largest operator of the MAX within the United States, with 34 examples currently grounded.

The result is that the Dallas based airline is currently focusing its attention on Hawaii with a host of additional flights and connections.
