Southwest Airlines announces October traffic data

Southwest Airlines has announced October 2012 consolidated traffic results for Southwest Airlines and AirTran, which became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southwest on 2 May 2011.

The company flew 8,497,347,000 revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in October 2012, compared to 8,708,832,000 RPMs flown in October 2011, a decrease of 2.4%. Available seat miles (ASMs) decreased 1.6% to 10,527,246,000 in October 2012 from 10,698,068,000 ASMs in October 2011.

The October 2012 load factor was 80.7%, down by 0.7 percentage points compared with 81.4% in October 2011. Revenue passengers carried totalled 9,147,369, which was down by 3.1% compared with last October’s figure of 9,439,474.
