Southwest Airlines has reported its preliminary traffic figures for both June 2015 and for the first half of the calendar year (1H15).
The company flew 10,757,440,000 revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in June 2015, a 6.9% increase from the 10,066,937,000 RPMs flown in June 2014. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 6.7% to 12,475,838,000 in June 2015, compared with the June 2014 level of 11,692,896,000. The June 2015 load factor was a record for the month of June at 86.2%, compared with 86.1% in June 2014. Revenue passengers carried during June totalled 10,520,004, up 4.5% compared with the 10,068,625 carried in June 2014.
In 1H15, Southwest flew 56,719,247,000 RPMs, compared with 52,745,314,000 RPMs flown in 1H14, an increase of 7.5%. Year-to-date 2015 ASMs increased 6.5% to 68,773,495,000 billion, compared with 64,570,794,000 for the same period in 2014. The load factor in 1H15 was a record 82.5%, compared with 81.7% for the same period in 2014. The number of revenue passengers carried in 1H15 was 57,243,738, compared with 54,210,923 in 1H14, a 5.6% increase.
