SkyWest, Inc. has announced combined December and calendar year 2011 traffic figures for its airline subsidiaries, SkyWest Airlines, Atlantic Southeast Airlines and ExpressJet Airlines.
The airline trio reported a 3.8% increase in revenue passenger miles (RPMs) for December, the total being 2,404,226,526 compared with 2,316,018,612 in December 2010. Available seat miles (ASMs) were 3,062,891,993, an increase of 2.6% compared to December 2010’s figure of 2,985,104,590.
The load factor in December 2011 was 78.5% compared with 77.6% the previous December, up 0.9 percentage points. The number of passengers carried increased by 1.9% to 4,552,494 from 4,466,253 for the same period last year.
Over the year ending 31 December 2011, the three carriers combined to generate 29,109,039,290 RPMs, a 43.9% increase over 2010’s total of 20,227,219,872. ASMs increase by the same amount, 43.9%, to 36,698,858,901 from 25,503,845,155 in 2010. The load factor therefore remained 79.3%. Passengers carried, however, rose by 38.2% to 55,836,271 in 2011 from 40,411,089 in 2010.
The large annual increases in RPMs, ASMs and passengers carried reflect the fact that the purchase of ExpressJet took place in November 2010. ASA and ExpressJet have now been merged into one carrier under the ExpressJet Airlines brand, based in Atlanta.
