Sky Airline to receive CFM56-5B maintenance from MTU

MTU Maintenance has signed a contract to provide Chile’s largest low-fare carrier, Sky Airline, with a total engine care (TEC) maintenance programme for its CFM56-5B engines over the next eight years.The airline’s 26 CFM56-5B engines – which power its Airbus A319 aircraft as part of a recent fleet modernisation – will be overhauled at MTU Maintenance’s Asian location in Zhuhai, China, which is a 50:50 joint venture between MTU Aero Engines and China Southern Air Holding Company. MTU Maintenance already provides maintenance for Sky Airline’s V2500 engines.Furthermore, apart from core maintenance, MTU will provide Sky Airline with spare engines via its recently founded engine lease company – MTU Maintenance Lease Services – as well as on-site repairs and MTU Plus Engine Trend Monitoring.Sky Airline serves 14 destinations within Chile as well as additional locations in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and Peru.
