Scoot has appointed former head of commercial at AirAsia X, Darren Wright, as its general manager Australia.
Wright will offer his wealth of experience in both legacy and low-fare airlines to Scoot. After joining AirAsia X in October 2007 just prior to the carrier’s inaugural flight, he progressed to the role of head of commercial for the airline, responsible for sales and marketing, PR, revenue management and ancillaries.
Scoot’s CEO Campbell Wilson commented, “Darren’s a very welcome addition to the Scoot family. With his strong network in Australia, insights on the aviation and tourism industry, and great airline experience, we’ll be able to engage the Australian consumer, travel trade and authorities much more closely. Darren will also be keeping a lookout for new commercial opportunities and routes, so that we can expand our current Australasian footprint of Sydney and the Gold Coast.”
Wright will be based in the Gold Coast and work closely with the airline’s commercial team in Singapore. He will take charge of Scoot’s business in Australia in the areas of sales, marketing and distribution; operations; government relations, as well as market planning and competitor activity.
Prior to joining the AirAsia X, Wright was the head of marketing at Virgin Blue (now Virgin Australia) for five years and prior to that the marketing manager for Flight Centre for six years.
