Privately owned regional Russian carrier Nordavia has announced that it will re-brand itself as Smartavia to show its commitment to emerging new technologies.

The rebranding will be a gradual process across the next 12 months, with its first aircraft sporting the airline’s new livery scheduled for early April. Smartavia is introducing new technologies to create a “new system of e-commerce,” said Sergey Savostin, the airline’s general director.

Other planned introductions associated with the rebranding include new passenger service standard, a new fares structure, a redesigned website and a mobile app. Savostin added: “The rebranding is to attract active people with a pronounced desire for self-development and a family audience.”

Smartavia’s new colour scheme will be very different from Nordavia, which resembled Aeroflot in a tribute to the time when the regional airline was a subsidiary called Aeroflot Nord. The aircraft fuselage will retain its basic silver background colour but with the addition of purple and coral tail sections.

In the next four months, Smartavia will receive five Boeing 737-800s and one 737-700. These aircraft will all be painted in the new livery. As a result of its growth, the airline expects to double its passenger levels from 1.19 million to 2.2 million this year.
