Republic Airways Holdings has confirmed its order with Airbus, previously announced as a Letter of Intent at the Paris Air Show, to buy 80 A320neo family aircraft but has changed the announced mix of 40 A320neos and 40 A319neos to 60 A320neos and 20 A319neos.
The aircraft, which will be powered by CFM’s LEAP-X1A engines, will be flown by Republic’s subsidiary Frontier Airlines, which currently operates 59 Airbus A318, A319 and A320 aircraft.
“This order is a confirmation of our confidence that Airbus and the neo aircraft will be significant contributors to the future growth of Frontier Airlines,” commented Bryan Bedford, chairman, president and CEO of Republic Airways. “We see high fuel prices continuing, and these state-of-the-art, fuel-efficient aircraft will be a major factor in Frontier maintaining its position as an industry cost leader. They will allow Frontier to continue to offer travellers low fares despite persistently high fuel prices.”
