Aurora Gold Mine (AGM), located in the north-west of Guyana’s Mazaruni Region, has awarded Trans Guyana Airways (TGA) a FIFO (Fly-In, Fly-Out) contract to ferry personnel to the mine from Georgetown Ogle on Guyana’s coast.

TGA was selected from a field of several local carriers that had tendered proposals.

“We are happy we are able to expand our local content by allowing local providers in the aviation industry to provide us the service that we need, thus ensuring that more local players are involved. We are happy to partner with Trans Guyana on this journey,” Peter Benny, corporate office and compliance said.

AGM began outsourcing its charter requirements after its parent firm, Guyana Goldfields Inc, decided to sell its DHC-6 Series 300 it had acquired in 2018. The aircraft is due to leave Guyana next month. As an interim solution, TGA will provide spill-over flights until the Twin Otter departs.

Currently, TGA has a fleet comprised of two Beech 1900Ds, along with Cessna 208B Grand Caravans and Britten-Norman Islanders on scheduled charter flights throughout Guyana.
