PARIS 2015: GKN partners with Pratt & Whitney on PW1400G-JM engine for MC-21

In a new risk and revenue sharing partnership (RRSP), GKN Aerospace will design and manufacture the turbine exhaust case (TEC) and the compressor intermediate case (IMC) for Pratt & Whitney’s PW1400G-JM engine which will power Irkut’s MC-21 aircraft family.GKN Aerospace expects this RRSP to be worth more than $650 million over the life of the programme. This follows the company's announcement of an RRSP for the PW1900G engine for the Embraer E190/195-E2 in September 2014, an agreement the company estimated to be worth in excess of $2.5 billion.“We continue our long-term partnership with Pratt & Whitney, supplying these complex parts for their engines and constantly applying developments in technology to increase performance, reduce weight and material waste, and speed manufacture,” explained Mike McCann, CEO of GKN Aerospace. “Again, this latest RRSP sees us working with Pratt & Whitney from a base of certified parts which helps streamline development, reduce risk, simplify certification and ease maintenance once the aircraft is in service.”The PW1400G-JM’s engine certification is scheduled for the end of 2015 followed by entry into service in late 2017.
