Using the crowdfunding website crowdcube.com, the new UK-based operator Odyssey Airlines has managed to reach 104% of its £1m target.
Explaining why Odyssey decided to use crowdfunding to secure investment in the airline, CEO Adam Scott commented, “The key objectives of our crowdfunding campaigns have been to raise the profile of Odyssey, develop a captive audience of long-term supporters and future customers, and to provide an opportunity for individuals to directly participate in the launch of an airline who would have otherwise been unable to do so in the past.”
Odyssey plans to begin operation from London City with flights using Bombardier CS100s to city centre airports in North America and the Middle East from 2016.
The Odyssey team include David Tait, ex executive director for Virgin Atlantic and Stephen Miller, founder of Dragonair and former CEO of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines.
