New Romanian base and routes for Wizz Air

Wizz Air will begin base operations in Sibiu in August and launch four new routes from the airport, whilst also adding Suceava as its newest Romanian destination with a new service to London Luton.

Sibiu will be Wizz Air’s seventh base in Romania and Suceava becomes the airline’s ninth Romanian destination. Along with one new Airbus A320 aircraft to be based in Sibiu, Wizz Air will launch new routes to Nuremberg, Munich Memmingen, Milan Bergamo and Madrid, and increase weekly London Luton flights to five. Service from Suceava will connect the north Romanian city with London Luton four times a week.

The new base in Sibiu represents an investment by Wizz Air of €100 million and the company will hire 36 people to be based in Sibiu as crewmembers for the new aircraft, bringing the company’s total employment in Romania to 600 staff.

Flights to Nuremberg begin on 19 August, with Milan Bergamo and Madrid starting the following day and the service to Munich Memmingen on 21 August.

Flights between Suceava and London Luton will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 19 August.

Wizz Air chief commercial officer György Abrán commented, “Customers in Romania continue to look to Wizz for low fares to more destinations throughout Europe and the Middle East and we are responding with more capacity, more aircraft, more routes, and more local jobs. As the airline carrying more Romanian passengers than any other, we are very excited about our growth in Sibiu and the addition of Suceava as another new destination in Romania and we will continue to invest in our operations here to ensure we offer the lowest fares to more and more people flying through our nine Romanian airports.”
