Julian Carr has been appointed managing director of low-fare airline bmibaby, succeeding Crawford Rix.
Carr joined bmibaby in May 2008 as commercial director for the airline, responsible for revenue management, network planning, marketing, PR, customer relations and e-commerce. Prior to this he spent two years working for IATA in Montreal, Canada, where he was responsible for marketing and business development opportunities within the airline sector.
Carr’s initial entry into the airline industry was with Jet2.com, where he was involved in the business planning and launch of the airline. After a term as business development manager for Jet2.com, he moved to MyTravelLite as head of marketing and development, taking over as managing director of the airline after a short period.
“bmibaby is extremely well placed to build on its strengths, and I am looking forward to driving this business forward,” Carr remarked. “I want to continually improve the customer’s experience and make bmibaby the airline of choice for the destinations that we serve. We have an outstanding team at bmibaby and I am delighted to be leading them.”
The new MD holds an MSc in Air Transport Management from Cranfield University, and is also a qualified private pilot.
