RUAG Aviation has delivered a new Dornier 228 to regional airline Aurigny Air Services.

The carrier accepted delivery of its second such Dornier 228 from RUAG, which is the type certificate (TC) holder and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the aircraft.

Aurigny Air Services operates out of the island of Guernsey, and took delivery of the aircraft at RUAG Aviation’s facilities in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. “This new aircraft is set to take up regularly scheduled operations immediately, and we are pleased that our acceptance procedure could go forward smoothly,” said Mark Darby, the airline’s CEO.

Two new features in the Dornier 228 new production model configuration were flagged up: the glass cockpit avionics now includes the recently certified digital autopilot, while cabin comfort has been enhanced by newly sourced and approved seating systems.

Aurigny is tasked by the States of Guernsey and Alderney with providing reliable passenger, medevac and cargo transport on routes between Guernsey, Alderney and Southampton on the south coast of England. It maintains a fleet of four Dornier 228s including the two new models.

The acceptance procedure for the aircraft was brief, lasting just two days, said RUAG. Volker Wallrodt, senior vice-president at RUAG Aviation, said: “Our team of technicians and engineers are heavily invested in excellence of new aircraft. This current success, especially the smooth and swift acceptance protocol, proves we are on track with customer expectations.”
