The Board of Faroese national carrier, Atlantic Airways, has announced that the current CEO of Faroe Ship, Jóhanna á Bergi, will become the airline’s new chief executive no later than 1 September 2015.
á Bergi has extensive leadership and board experience, having served CEO of Faroe Ship for nine years. She has a degree in leadership from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, and has also studied sales and marketing at Den Danske Eksportskole.
“In Jóhanna á Bergi we have found the right CEO to carry forward Atlantic Airways’ new strategy, which the board – together with interim CEO Jørgen Holme and our staff – have initiated and developed since Mr Holme’s appointment 18 months ago,” remarked Niels Mortensen, chair of the Board. “[She] has strong leadership experience, and she has the right mix of qualifications in sales, marketing and finance.”
Jørgen Holme became interim CEO of Atlantic Airways in November 2013 for a transitional period of a maximum two years. He will continue as CEO until á Bergi takes up her new position.
Commenting on her appointment, á Bergi said, “To me it is a great joy to be able to serve the Faroese people and society as CEO for our national airline carrier. Atlantic Airways plays a pivotal role in the daily life of us all and I will make every effort to further develop the carrier to the benefit of us all.”
