Wizz Air Holding has announced the promotion of George Michalopoulos (pictured) to the post of chief commercial officer (CCO) as of 1 September 2016, reporting to the airline’s chief executive officer József Váradi.
Michalopoulos joined Wizz Air in 2010 as head of pricing and revenue management and was promoted to head of network development, scheduling and sales in May 2015. Before joining Wizz Air he built an extensive commercial and revenue management career at Flybaboo and Blu-Express. He holds Swiss, British and Greek citizenship and holds both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.
Michalopoulos will take over from György Abrán, who after 12 years with Wizz Air has decided to leave the company from September 2016.
“I am glad that today’s announcement is another example of promoting strong talent from within,” Váradi emphasised. “For the past six years, George has demonstrated great competencies of leadership and determination. Under his supervision the department has achieved outstanding results, which once again underlines Wizz Air’s ultimate employment formula where commitment, dedication and hard work result in career progression into senior management. I would also like to thank György for his hard work over the past 12 years and wish him success in his future endeavours”
