Southwest Airlines has reported May 2012 consolidated traffic results for Southwest Airlines and AirTran.
AirTran became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southwest Airlines on 2 May 2011, so for purposes of comparability, the company is providing combined traffic results for Southwest Airlines and AirTran for periods prior to the acquisition date.
The company flew 8,974,366,000 revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in May 2012, compared to 9,213,061,000 RPMs flown in May 2011, a decrease of 2.6%. Available seat miles (ASMs) decreased by 0.9% to 11,036,945,000 from the May 2011 level of 11,142,018,000.
The load factor for May 2012 was 81.3%, a drop of 1.4 percentage points from the 82.7% in May 2011. Revenue passengers carried numbered 9,592,865, a1.1% decrease compared with the 9,696,756 carried in May 2011.
