Southwest Airlines has reported March 2012 combined traffic results for Southwest Airlines and AirTran.
AirTran became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southwest Airlines on 2 May 2011 and for comparability purposes, Southwest is providing combined traffic results for both its operating airlines for periods prior to the acquisition date.
The airlines flew 9,076,847,000 revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in March 2012, compared to 9,163,742,000 combined RPMs flown in March 2011, a decrease of 0.9%. Available seat miles (ASMs) decreased by 0.9% to 11,091,368,000 from the March 2011 combined level of 11,193,348,000.
The load factor for March 2012 was 81.8%, marginally down on March 2011’s 81.9%. For March 2012, passenger revenue per ASM (PRASM) is estimated to have increased approximately 5% compared with March 2011’s combined PRASM.
The number of revenue passengers carried in March 2012 was 9,593,562, which was 1.3% fewer than the 9,723,626 carried in March last year.
