Airbus has achieved joint type certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for its A319neo aircraft.

The narrowbody, powered by CFM International’s LEAP-1A engines, is the last of the A320neo family to be certified. An intensive certification flight test programme since its first flight in March 2017 saw the variant accumulate over 500 flight hours.

The A319neo with LEAP-1A engines is the fifth airframe/engine variant of the Neo family certified over the last three years, says Airbus. The A319neo is the shortened-fuselage member of the manufacturer’s line up, able to seat up to 140 passengers in two classes or 160 in a high-density layout. It has a range of up to 3,750 nautical miles.
