June 2014 and half-year traffic announced by Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines has reported preliminary traffic results for June 2014 and first half (1H14).

The airline flew 10,066,937,000 revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in June 2014, a 2.2% increase from the 9,846,172,000 RPMs flown in June 2013. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 0.9% to 11,692,896,000 from the June 2013 level of 11,588,034,000.

The June 2014 load factor was up 1.1 percentage points at 86.1%, compared with 85.0% in June 2013. Revenue passengers carried totalled 10,068,625, compared with 9,909,894 in June 2013, a 1.6% increase.

For the first half of 2014 (1H14), Southwest flew 52,745,314,000 RPMs, compared with 51,686,249,000 RPMs flown for the same period in 2013, an increase of 2.0%. Year-to-date ASMs decreased 0.7% to 64,570,794,000 from 65,032,668,000 for the same period in 2013.

The 1H14 load factor was 81.7%, up 2.2 pp from 1H13’s figure of 79.5%. Revenue passengers carried in 1H14 totalled 54,210,923, a 0.1% increase on the 54,164,301 carried in 1H13.
