JetBlue signs up for TSA PreCheck

JetBlue Airways has joined the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) PreCheck programme, which allows participating customers to expedite security by leaving their shoes, belt and light outerwear on and in most cases keep their laptop computers and 3-1-1 compliant liquids and gels in their carry-on bag.

JetBlue customers who are members of one of the certified "trusted traveller" programmes as defined by TSA may add their "known traveller" number to their reservation, and check in via JetBlue's mobile app to receive expedited screening benefits at any of the 22 JetBlue locations where it is available. In addition, some customers who opt to use JetBlue's mobile boarding pass, who are not TSA PreCheck qualified but meet TSA's low-risk profile, may be randomly selected for TSA PreCheck expedited screening.

"TSA's PreCheck programme not only helps expedite known travellers, but benefits all JetBlue customers with a more efficiently managed security lane experience," explained Dave Barger, JetBlue's president and CEO. "For our customers who fly often, this makes a world of difference, and we're happy to make this benefit available."

"TSA remains committed to working with our partners across the aviation community to provide travellers the most effective security in the most efficient way," said TSA administrator John Pistole. "Expanding TSA PreCheck to JetBlue underscores our strong commitment to developing and deploying innovative security solutions to protect the nation's transportation systems."

JetBlue will expand its participation in TSA PreCheck to include paper boarding passes printed at home, from the check-in desk, or from the kiosk in the departure lobby by the end of the first quarter 2014. Until then, only mobile boarding passes via JetBlue's app will be available for the TSA PreCheck lane.

TSA PreCheck/expedited security screening is currently available in the 22 JetBlue locations: Austin, TX; Boston, MA; Charlotte, NC; Ft Lauderdale, FL; Hartford, CT; Houston Hobby, TX; Las Vegas, NV; Long Beach, CA; Los Angeles, CA; New York LaGuardia, NY; New York JFK, NY; Newark, NJ; Oakland, CA; Orlando, FL; Pittsburgh, PA; Salt Lake City, UT; San Francisco, CA; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Seattle, WA; Syracuse, NY; Washington Dulles, DC; and White Plains, NY.
