Argentina’s first low-fare airline, Flybondi.com, has celebrated the delivery of its first aircraft, a Boeing 737-800 from SMBC Aviation Capital.
This marks SMBC Aviation Capital’s first aircraft to be delivered into the Argentine market, as well as its first aircraft with Flybondi.com.
The aircraft has an all-economy class configuration and is powered by CFM engines. It recently underwent a modification programme in Asia and delivered to the airline in November.
The start-up ultra-low fare airline plans to begin commercial operations in early January following the deregulation of the Argentine airline marketplace.
The 737 will be employed on the airline’s first routes from Córdoba and El Palomar, Buenos Aires to Argentina’s main cities.
“We are delighted to welcome this B737-800 as the first aircraft in our fleet and the start of our next phase of launching the airline,” said Julian Cook, CEO of Flybondi.com. “This is an exciting time in the development of our airline and we look forward to serving our future customers with this aircraft. We also look forward to working with and growing our relationship with SMBC Aviation Capital into the future.”
Chief marketing officer of SMBC Aviation Capital Brian Harvey added: “We are very pleased to add Flybondi.com as our newest customer and Argentina as a new country to our list of airline partners. This is an exciting time for Flybondi.com as the airline commences operations in Argentina and we at SMBC Aviation Capital are pleased to be able to play a supporting role in the launch of the airline.”
